Archery has been a camper favorite for decades. During all hours of free time, you and your friends can make your way to the archery range and give your archery skills a go. If you haven't used a bow and arrow before, don't worry. Our staff will guide you along your journey to getting a bullseye –– but it might take a few days to get the hang of it.
In 2024, the archery range will be completely redone and moved to a larger space, offering more of a challenge for seasoned marksmen. So if you've done archery during your week at Camp Firwood before, then prepare to have your skills tested once again.
2. Tubing
Tubing is a go-to for thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. If you enjoy high speeds and gnarly wipeouts, then make your way to the lakefront during your free time.

4. Wake Sports
Many campers see free time as a chance to perfect their water skiing or wakeboarding abilities, while others learn wake sports for the first time during their week at Camp Firwood.
Whatever your skill level, time spent behind one of our ski boats –– wake surfing, water skiing, or wakeboarding –– is time well spent.
5. Extreme Studio Arts
While a week at Camp Firwood is full of excitement and adventure, Extreme Studio Arts serves as a perfect opportunity to slow down and enjoy the simplicity of arts and crafts.
In our lakefront art studio, you can unleash your creativity and bring your imagination to life on a canvas. The incorporation of our local wilderness is highly encouraged, so be ready to use leaves, branches, and other elements of the woods to create nature-inspired paintings or drawings.
6. Big Swing
The Big Swing is back, and you won't want to miss it during your week at Camp Firwood. One of the many new things coming to camp in 2024, the Big Swing provides more breath-taking fun.
Do you like roller coasters, zip lines, and other forms of thrill rides? The Big Swing is up your alley. Even if you wouldn't consider yourself a thrill-seeker, you have to try the Big Swing during your week at summer camp. It's an absolute must!
7. Boating
While tubing, wake sports, and blobbing offer big splashes and aquatic excitement, boating is a good way to enjoy Lake Whatcom at a relaxing pace.
Somedays, you'll have the chance to step up to more elaborate challenges, like kayak soccer or canoe races –– so be prepared!
8. Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is the pinnacle of some of the physical challenges that you may face during your week at Camp Firwood. If you've never tried rock climbing before, that is okay! There are multiple routes you can take on our rock wall.
This means if you're an experienced climber, there will be a suitable challenge for you, as well. No matter you skill level, the rock wall with provide a formidable challenge for you and your friends.
9. Blobbing
For some campers, blobbing is the highlight of their week at Camp Firwood. In essence, a blob is a large, inflatable structure that floats on the surface of the water like a squishy pillow.
Using the energy of another camper, who jumps onto the blob from a tower, a camper sitting at the opposite end of the blob is launched into the air, splashing into Lake Whatcom with a triumphant round of applause from spectators.
Blobbing is a staple of the Camp Firwood experience, and as daunting as it may sound, blobbing is one of those activities that you need to try during your week at summer camp.
10. Sailing
Sailing is a perfect medium between thrill and serenity. For those who enjoy both strategy and excitement, embarking on a journey around Lake Whatcom on one of our Hobie Cats will offer a fair balance of the two.
While most campers come to Camp Firwood never having sailed before, many leave with a greater appreciation of the age-old activity, seeing as how harnessing the power of the wind to traverse great distances proves immensely satisfying.
